Based on the specific cold-roll trajectory of this riveting technique, it can be categorized into the swing-roll riveting method and the radial riveting method.

  The oscillating roll riveting method involves the riveting head first making contact with the workpiece, while a pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder simultaneously presses down firmly onto the workpiece surface. This action applies all-around rolling pressure, instantly deforming the workpiece surface and creating the desired riveting effect.

  The radial riveting method is also known as the spherical plum-blossom riveting method. In this technique, the riveting motion follows a plum-blossom-shaped trajectory on the surface of a sphere, with the path forming a closed curve. This riveting approach allows the rivet to deform in three distinct directions.

  When comparing the two riveting methods, radial riveting places greater pressure requirements on the workpiece surface than spin-rolling riveting. Additionally, the positive and negative spherical surfaces are directly compressed during this process, making them more prone to damage and resulting in a higher failure rate. In practice, this method has gradually been replaced by the swing-roll technique, though the latter still doesn’t deliver the same level of workpiece quality and continues to suffer from higher failure rates.   When riveting workpieces, the oscillating roller design offers excellent stability, preventing radial vibrations that could compromise machining quality.
